Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs with Jalapeno, Cheddar, and Caramelized Onions

Home » Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs with Jalapeno, Cheddar, and Caramelized Onions

I hate hot dogs. Well, I hate kid hot dogs. If you put a hot dog in the middle of a bun and sprinkle it with a little ketchup and mustard, then you, my friend, are eating a kid dog. correct. I just thought it was… common. When I eat a hot dog, I like to go all out. I stick with all beef hot dogs (Hebrew country) and fill them with other goodies. Take this hot dog, for example. It’s far from a kid’s hot dog. It’s wrapped in bacon and smothered in BBQ sauce, melted cheese, caramelized onions, and roasted jalapenos. It’s right up my alley. I’ve been loving jalapenos lately. I swear I’m going to buy them in bulk. There’s nothing wrong with jazzing up your summer!

raw material

8 hot dogs

8 hot dog buns

8 strips of bacon

16 toothpicks

2 onions, halved and sliced

1 tablespoon olive oil

4 jalapeños, sliced

cheddar cheese, shredded

barbecue sauce

1. Wrap each hot dog with a strip of bacon. Secure each bacon end in the hot dog with a toothpick. Cook each hot dog in a grill or skillet over medium heat. Rotate each hot dog while cooking so all sides are cooked. Remove from pan when bacon is crisp.

2. Meanwhile, in another skillet, sauté the onions in the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once they’re soft and translucent, reduce the heat to medium-low. Stir occasionally. As the onions continue to cook, they will take on a nice brown color. Once they are a beautiful brown, remove from the heat and set aside. This takes about 20 minutes.

3. Roast the jalapeño slices in the same skillet as the onions. Bake for 3-4 minutes.

4. Place the bacon-wrapped hot dog on the bun to make your hot dog, spread it with a line of BBQ sauce, and top with cheddar, onion, and jalapeños. enjoy!
