on my latest trip Regal Princess, I have to spend a few days in St. Petersburg, Russia. Princess Cruises has an amazing idea called “Going Ashore,” where you can spend the night in amazing destinations like St. Petersburg. Because, hello, when else can you go to Russia? Our time in St. Petersburg was incredible. We have chosen the most extreme tour package Their service took us to all the highlights of St Petersburg. I was shocked at how much we could fit in those two days!

Our first day in St Petersburg was to visit palaces and churches. St. Petersburg is full of the most amazing architecture. This city is such a treasure. The grand palaces are a stark contrast to the city’s communist-era architecture, but the juxtaposition fascinates me and helps to visually tell the story of the history of this great city. We visited just before Victory Day, celebrating the liberation of St. Petersburg during WWII. We saw all kinds of military vehicles, personnel, ships and submarines. And let me tell you, it was quite the sight!

Some of the highlights of our time in Russia had to be our tour and dinner at Catherine Palace. We’re talking accommodating 100 people or less in one of the most spectacular palaces in the world. We were welcomed by the band, toured the palace, and then had a private concert by a string quartet in the Grand Ballroom. Afterwards we went to one of the wings for a four course dinner. I keep thinking, “Is this really my life?” If you’ve ever dreamed about pretending to be a real life princess overnight, you gotta go on this trip! You can only get this experience with Princess Cruises because they are so good. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience! I can’t recommend it enough!

We started our second day in Russia with a canal cruise. What an amazing way to see the city! After our cruise we visited the second largest Hermitage Museum in the world. Since we were with Princess, we had to visit 2 hours before normal opening time, which was great because the museum was very crowded. After our museum tour we saw more amazing Russian churches and had lunch at a local restaurant. This small restaurant was the inspiration for this recipe. There we were served some sort of baklava-inspired dessert, made of puff pastry instead of layered with puff pastry. It immediately made me think of making baklava inspired cinnamon rolls.

These cinnamon rolls are a whole different kind of cinnamon roll. I used my famous traditional cinnamon roll dough and combined it with a traditional baklava filling. It’s topped with a honey lemon glaze and it’s simply amazing! Experience the amazing flavor of baklava in a whole new way! I love being inspired by recipes from all over the world!

Baklava Cinnamon Rolls have all the flavor of your favorite traditional baklava wrapped in soft and sticky cinnamon rolls. You’ll love the pistachio filling and lemon honey glaze.

Preparation time 1 Hour 45 minute

cooking time 20 minute

total time 2 Hour 5 minute

raw material

dough

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon instant dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoon White sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoon salted butter soften
  • 1 big egg
  • 3 cup all purpose flour

filling

  • 1/2 cup salted butter soften
  • 1/2 pound pistachio almonds, walnuts or a combination
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon clove powder

glaze

  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1 to 1½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice

instruct

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm milk, yeast, sugar, salt, butter, and eggs. Add the flour. Using the dough hook, turn the mixer to low speed.

  • Once the flour begins to incorporate into the dough, increase the speed to medium. Add more flour as needed to pull the dough away from the sides of the bowl. The dough mixture should be sticky but not stick to your hands. It should be soft. Add more or less flour until the dough reaches the desired consistency. The amount of flour you add when making bread is always an approximation and should be determined by feel.

  • Transfer dough to a lightly greased mixing bowl. Cover with a towel and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

  • Lightly grease a baking sheet. Punch down the dough and roll out to a 12-inch by 18-inch rectangle.

  • Spread 1/2 cup softened butter over dough with a butter knife. In a food processor, combine nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Process until the nuts are coarsely ground. Spread evenly over butter. Roll up tightly lengthwise so you have one long roll. Using regular dental floss or a sharp knife, cut dough into 12 one-inch slices.

  • Gently place slices on a 9×13 pan. Cover and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes.

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake the rolls for about 20 minutes, until the top is just kissed brown.

  • While baking cinnamon rolls, make the glaze by whisking honey, powdered sugar, and lemon juice in a small mixing bowl.

  • Drizzle glaze over rolls while warm. Serve immediately or chill and store. Stays in good condition for 4 to 5 days.
