Beer Cheese Dip is ready in 15 minutes and is the best appetizer ever! Customize it with your favorite beer, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, and keep it light with fresh homemade pretzels, bread, or even fresh veggies! Everyone will love it!

We just love pub food. Not only is it the best comfort food, it’s the best party food! Win-win! The hard part about party food is that you’re often trying to coordinate 10 different dishes at the same time. This leads to too much stress ahead of the fun event, so we embrace dishes like beer cheese dips because they’re quick and easy to make and so delicious. We like to offer partygoers options ranging from totally indulgent and over the top to moderately healthy, making the dip an excellent choice! Choose to dip celery or pretzels to keep it light or totally indulge!

  • What type of beer should I use?

There’s really no limit here as to which beer you should use. If you’re an avid beer lover, try this recipe with your favorite beer. If beer isn’t your thing, stick to lighter beers like ale or beer. If you’re avoiding alcohol for any reason, you can even make this recipe with non-alcoholic beer!

  • Milk Choices:

We love the creaminess of this dip when we use whole milk, but whole milk isn’t necessary. Feel free to use whatever milk you usually have on hand, maybe even try half and half!

If you’re dairy-free, choose a higher-fat, creamier plant-based milk alternative, such as oat milk or soy milk.

  • Cheese Options:

We love the beer cheese dip and the sharp cheddar. Not only can you try a variety of different cheddars, from mild to extra sharp, but you can also try your other favorite melted cheeses. If you’re feeling extra fancy, try mixed cheeses! We recommend shredding your own cheese rather than using store-bought pre-shredded cheese.

If you’re dairy-free, use your favorite plant-based cheese substitute. Not all plant-based cheeses are created equal, so stick with the brands you’re familiar with that should melt well.

  • How spicy is the beer cheese dip?

All spice levels should be easily enjoyed with just 1/8 teaspoon of paprika. If you have an extreme spice intolerance, you can always leave out the cayenne. Prefer spicy? Increase your cayenne to 1/4 -1/2 tsp depending on your own taste preference.

  • Service suggestion:

Our favorite way to eat beer cheese dip is by dipping homemade pretzels into it. It’s just amazing. However, you have plenty of options here: baguette, baguette, crusty artisan bread or nachos. For a lighter option, include some fresh veggies for dipping: celery sticks, bell pepper strips, or broccoli florets.

  • Note in advance:

This dish is so much easier if you can make it ahead of time! Make this recipe 2 days in advance as directed. Let cool, then cover with plastic wrap or remove to a storage container with a tight-fitting lid. When ready to serve, reheat in a saucepan on the stovetop over low heat, stirring every few minutes until heated through.
