Who doesn’t love the saltiness of a pretzel and the sweetness of chocolate? Similar to chocolate and peanut butter, chocolate and pretzels are a classic dessert flavor combo, and we absolutely love this recipe. It’s ridiculously quick to put together and doesn’t even require any oven to bake! Perfect for hot summer days.

When sweetened condensed milk is caramelized, it is called dulche de leche. The sugar in the sweetened condensed milk provides all the sugar it needs to caramelize it. Pure caramel is just melted sugar. Some kind of milk, such as heavy cream, is added to the creme caramel. Dulche de leche, then, is the Spanish name for creme brulee.

  • Chocolate Choices for Chocolate Pretzel Caramel Bars:

    Chocolate chips, chocolate wafers, semi-sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, oh my! There are many options, but don’t let it overwhelm you. If you don’t want your chocolate to be too sweet, stick to semi-sweet or dark chocolate. If you’re a chocoholic and can’t get enough, milk chocolate is just what you need. You can use wafers or chips, it’s really just a personal preference and won’t interfere with the recipe in any way.

  • Do I have to include pretzels?

    I mean, pretzels are our jam, so we highly recommend them. However, if you’re just looking for the basic chocolate and caramel bar, you can always skip the pretzels.

  • Storage Instructions:

    You’ll want to keep them in the fridge for up to a week before they get too soft and messy. Alternatively, you can freeze them for up to a month. Just thaw in a Ziploc bag before you bite!
