Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert in which ladies’ fingers are dipped in a variety of rum and coffee and topped with a mascarpone cream mixture. We are a coffee and alcohol free family so I came up with a family friendly tiramisu recipe with an emphasis on chocolate. In this delicious alternative version, fingers are dipped in hot chocolate and layered with mascarpone cream mixture and chocolate custard layers. The result is a heavenly dessert that everyone in the family can enjoy!

My husband grew up several times in Italy. In our religious culture, we don’t drink coffee or alcohol, so there are many Italian grandmothers and mothers from church who make similar chocolate variations of tiramisu. While this may not be the way most Italians like it, I can assure you there are a lot of them!
