This soup is comforting in a bowl. It’s filling, warm, hearty, and delicious. We love soups at home, especially chowders, because they are so satisfying and creamy. This soup is full of flavor and delicious ingredients that will just make you feel good. Sweet, crispy corn, softened onions, and chunks of potatoes swim in a creamy, rich chowder. oh um!

Canned corn:

Canned corn can be used if fresh corn is not available, but we recommend using frozen corn whenever possible, as it more closely matches the texture and flavor of fresh corn.

Potato Options:

Yukon gold or red potatoes are best for soups and stews because they don’t break down as quickly as russet potatoes, which are too starchy and can become grainy.

Is Comfort Corn Chowder gluten-free?

Due to the flour, this recipe is not gluten free as written.If you want to make this recipe gluten-free, you can substitute 1.5 tbsp cornstarch for the flour

Bacon: optional?

No, bacon is optional. It adds a lot of flavor and texture, but if you don’t like it or don’t have it on hand, this chowder is great even without it.

Cream substitute:

We highly recommend using cream in this soup. It makes it super rich and indulgent. You can always substitute half and half if desired. Half and half is a mixture of half cream and half whole milk. Using half and half instead of cream lightens the texture and changes the flavor and is an option we use often. To substitute, just use half heavy cream and half milk in the amounts the recipe calls for.

Alternatively, you can always replace heavy cream with 3/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup melted butter, mixing well.
