Easy Fried Cabbage

Home » Easy Fried Cabbage

This fried cabbage dish is delicious and easy to make with just a few ingredients. Done in less than 30 minutes!

I used to hate cabbage until I tried sautéed cabbage a few years ago and now I really like it. I made this last weekend for a St. Paddy’s Day potluck with no leftovers and it was great! It pairs wonderfully with corned beef, stews, roast chicken and even pork chops.

These days, fried cabbage can be fried in many ways, but my favorite is to fry it with bacon and onions. I also like to keep the spices very simple with just salt, pepper and a little paprika for a smoky flavor.

Here are some notes about this recipe:

– Use any type of bacon you like – regular, turkey or even vegetarian. Keep in mind that turkey bacon and vegan bacon are less oily and additional oil or butter must be added.
– Use a non-stick pan so that all ingredients do not stick to the pan.
– Make sure to finely chop the onions as they blend better with the cabbage.
– Don’t overcook the cabbage or the texture will become very soft and “mushy” and weird. – You can also use sausage instead of bacon.

I know cabbage is one of those weird vegetables that people either hate or love. If you don’t like it, seriously, give this recipe a try and you might start liking cabbage too.

What is fried cabbage?

This is an Irish side dish of pan-fried cabbage, onions and basic spices, served mostly with corned beef.

How do you pan fry cabbage?

Melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat. Then, add the shredded cabbage, salt, pepper and sauté for a few minutes until the cabbage is soft. Some recipes (like mine) also include other ingredients like onions and bacon.
