Skip takeout and make this easy Thai beef salad that tastes like it came from a restaurant. Ready in just 15 minutes!

One of my favorite things to order at Thai restaurants is Thai Beef Salad. Crisp vegetables are mixed with marinated beef and the deliciously zippy dressing it’s soaking in. Since I just want to make restaurant quality meals at home, I’d be a total jerk if I didn’t share this recipe with you.

fish sauce: It’s super easy to make, with all the ingredients you can find at your regular grocery store. The only “scary” ingredient here is fish sauce. I would never eat fish sauce plain, but when mixed with the right ingredients it produces a wonderful flavor that is far from “fishy”. If you’ve eaten Southeast Asian food like Thai or Vietnamese (think Pho), you’ve definitely had fish sauce. It gives it a unique Southeast Asian flavor and feel that you can’t fully understand. Trust me on this. You can find it in the Asian section of your grocery store. It should be close to soy sauce. This is one of my favorite salads. I even made a video with this to show you how easy it is.

Tip: You can add more crushed red pepper flakes to this recipe to make it spicier, or add chopped jalapeños or Thai red peppers (if you can find them). Another option if you’re looking for medium-rare beef is to marinate a whole flank steak and cook it whole before slicing. Other tips: add more cilantro, use it as a salad ingredient rather than a side dish, and use more dressing. It’s full of delicious flavors!

Skip takeout and make this easy Thai beef salad that tastes like it came from a restaurant. Ready in just 15 minutes!

Preparation time 1 Hour

cooking time 10 minute

total time 1 Hour 10 minute

raw material

  • 1 pound beef ribs sliced against the grain
  • 3 lime Juiced
  • 2 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 3 clove garlic broken
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

  • 4 lime Juice (about 1/3 cup)
  • 3 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 teaspoon i am willow
  • 3 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

  • 2 tomato Halving and Slicing
  • 1 cucumber Halving and Slicing
  • 2 cup fresh coriander leaves roughly chopped
  • 1/2 Shallot thin slices
  • 1 head of lettuce slice

  • In a small mixing bowl, use your hands to whisk together the sirloin steak, lime juice, fish sauce, minced garlic, and minced red pepper. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

  • Make the dressing by whisking together lime juice, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, and crushed red pepper flakes in a small mixing bowl. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

  • After the beef is marinated, heat a heavy skillet or griddle over high heat. Cook beef, 1 to 2 minutes per side, then transfer to a bowl. Working in batches might make this easier, and it cooks so quickly it won’t take more than 10 minutes to cook a whole pound of beef.

  • Make a salad on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh cilantro, red onion, and beef. I like to make it in layers so the topping can be spread throughout the salad. Pour the dressing generously over the salad before serving.

If you’re in a hurry, you can skip the corned beef. Marinating for an hour just gives it more time to absorb the flavors.
