What kind of tomatoes should I use for tomato salad?

Both cherry and grape tomatoes are great choices for tomato salads. You can also dice heirloom, Roma, and other garden tomato varieties. They’ll all work well in this recipe, though cherry and grape tomatoes will produce prettier results.

Can I add cheese to tomato salad?

Yes, you can! This recipe goes well with 1/4 to 1/2 cup shredded feta cheese or some fresh mini mozzarella balls. Note that the dressing will discolor the cheese, so it’s best to add the cheese just before serving.

  • 2 pint cherry or grape tomatoes cut in half
  • 10 large basil leaves chiffon or grated
  • 3 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper

  • Halve any grapes or cherry tomatoes and place in a large mixing bowl. Toss basil with tomato mixture.

  • In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper.

  • Pour dressing over tomato mixture. Throw on the coat.

  • Serve at room temperature, or refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.
