Homemade applesauce is ready in just 10 minutes and combines our favorite fall flavors for the tastiest sauce ever!

It’s that time of year! The apples are ripe and ready to be picked from the tree. If you can’t find them from the orchard or the farmers market, there are plenty of sales around the corner as the grocery store is inundated with apples. Now is a great time to stock up on apple butter, which will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. Or give it to friends and neighbors as a stocking stuffer. On a cold morning, there’s nothing better than a slice of toast smeared with applesauce. It just makes you feel loved.

What apples should I use for homemade applesauce?

In fact, any variety of apple can be used to make applesauce. We recommend sticking to softer apples if possible to help them cook better. Some of our favorite softer apple varieties are:

  • Fuji
  • jona gold
  • McIntosh
  • golden crown

Use a mix of apple varieties for the best flavor.

Smooth and Thick:

You can determine how smooth or thick you want the applesauce based on how long it takes to puree or blend. We love good, smooth applesauce, but you can keep it as thick as you like!
