Homemade burger buns are easy to make and will make your burgers shine! It’s like eating homemade buns at a good burger bar, and they freeze, too!

  • What if I don’t have a stand mixer?

You can still make these delicious loaves without a mixer. In a large mixing bowl, combine yeast, sugar, salt, and about 2 cups flour. Stir the liquid mixture until well combined. Add remaining flour 1/2 cup – 1 cup at a time, kneading into dough as you go. After adding all the flour, knead for another 5 minutes or so. The dough should be nice and smooth.

  • What kind of flour should I use? Can I make them gluten free?

Use all-purpose flour or bread flour for best results in this recipe. Gluten-free flours vary and often cannot be substituted. Try a blend like Cup-for-Cup designed to replace plain flour.

  • Can I freeze these breads?

Yes, these loaves can be frozen for later use. Just be sure to let your burgers cool completely before freezing. Freeze in airtight resealable freezer bags to prevent freezer burn. They can be kept in the refrigerator for 1 to 3 months. To defrost, simply remove from refrigerator and let thaw at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours.

Preparation time 1 Hour 15 minute

cooking time 12 minute

total time 1 Hour 27 minute

raw material

  • 2 1/2 teaspoon instant dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup salted butter melted
  • 4 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 big egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds Elective

  • In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the yeast, sugar, salt, milk, and water.

  • Add melted butter and 3 1/2 cups flour. Begin mixing on low speed until all the flour is incorporated. Slowly add remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time until dough is sticky but not sticking to hands. The dough should be nice and smooth.

  • Transfer to a lightly greased large mixing bowl and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.

  • Divide dough into 12 equal parts and roll into balls. Press each ball between your hands to flatten. The dough will spring back a bit, giving you a disc about 1/2 inch. Place the discs on a lightly greased baking sheet.

  • Whisk together eggs and 1 tablespoon water to form an egg wash. Brush the top of the disc. This will give them a nice shiny brown finish. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, if desired, for a sesame bun.

  • Bake in a 400 degree oven for about 12 minutes, until lightly browned on top.
