Nacho Cheese Sauce is so easy to make and tastes so much better than store bought. Serve with a dip, or enjoy on a plate of nachos.

The nacho cheese sauce is so delicious. It’s basically a cheese gravy, what’s not to like? This is great with nacho dip or on a big plate of nachos. Whatever your preference, you’re going to love this cheese sauce.

Let’s talk about cheese selection. When it comes to nacho cheese sauce, you have a variety of options, all delicious in their own way. Velveeta is a processed American cheese that is the standard choice for making nacho cheese sauce. It will be thicker, smoother and creamier than shredded cheese. You can also use your standard cheddar or other favorite melted cheese, which will make for a thinner, slightly grainy sauce.

Can I use store bought pre-shredded cheese?

Freshly grated cheese is best. Additives in pre-shredded cheese that prevent clumping can affect its ability to melt.

Cheese Options:

You can use a processed American cheese like Velveeta, or you can make nacho cheese sauce with any melted cheese, including: cheddar, Colby Jack, or even mozzarella.

Nacho cheese sauce is best eaten fresh. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until heated through, or in a saucepan on the stove over medium heat.
