  • What kind of apples are best for making applesauce?

The best applesauce comes from a blend of apples rather than relying on just one type of apple. The best apples to use in this blend are McIntosh, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Fuji, and Jonathan apples.

  • Can you freeze fresh applesauce?

Applesauce freezes perfectly! To freeze homemade applesauce, wait until it has cooled completely, then place in quart- or gallon-sized freezer bags. Store applesauce in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. Do not refreeze applesauce after thawing.

  • How long is applesauce good in the fridge?

If you refrigerate applesauce and store it in an airtight container, it will keep for up to 2 weeks. That being said, it’s better to be safe than sorry, so if you think your applesauce has been sitting in the fridge for too long or has gone bad in the freezer, throw it away.

  • Can I store this applesauce long term?

Yes, you can. This recipe can be canned in a water canning bath. Be sure to follow proper canning procedures.

  • Can I make applesauce in the slow cooker or Instant Pot?

Yes! Instead of putting the apples in a saucepan on the stove, just put the apples (along with water, lemon juice, and a cinnamon stick) in the slow cooker or Instant Pot. For a slow cooker, cook on high for 3 to 4 hours. For the Instant Pot, you need 10 minutes of high pressure.
