  • Pour 1 cup of the hot fudge sauce into the baked, cooled pie shells. Spread out to cover the bottom and smooth. on hold.

  • Place sugar, cornstarch, milk, cream, peanut butter chips, and peanut butter in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture starts to bubble. This will take a few minutes. Once frothy, continue stirring for 2 minutes. The mixture will start to thicken.

  • Mix a little of the hot mixture into the yolks (do this part quickly), stirring quickly to avoid the yolks from cooking with the hot liquid. Stir warm egg yolk mixture back into remaining peanut butter mixture and cook for an additional 90 seconds. Remove from heat, add butter and herbs, and continue whisking until butter has melted and mixture is smooth.

  • Pour the peanut butter custard into the pie shell and cover with the fudge sauce. Let the mixture cool for 30 minutes, then place it in the refrigerator to finish cooling. Let cool in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

  • Additional fudge sauce can be drizzled on top for garnish. Add some more crushed pretzels and a dash of shaved chocolate, if desired. Wait until the peanut butter custard has cooled before adding the drizzle and topping, or you’ll end up with a puddle of chocolate.
