There’s nothing like perfectly grilled asparagus. It’s the easiest side dish to make, but it’s also incredibly flavorful when done right. Asparagus is absolutely perfect for grilling!

Can you grill asparagus on the grill?

Yes! Asparagus is great for grilling. The only thing you need to be careful about is making sure the asparagus spears don’t fall through the grates. Make sure you are grilling the asparagus perpendicular to the grid or using a roasting basket.

Can you bake asparagus in foil?

Yes! You can line a sheet of aluminum foil over the grill grate to keep the asparagus from falling and cook directly on the foil. Or, if you want a steamed effect, you can wrap the asparagus in foil to form a foil packet.

How to get asparagus crispy on the grill

To get asparagus crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, grill them directly on the grill over high heat. Direct heat will crisp the outside of the asparagus.

How long does it take to cook asparagus on the grill?

Grilling time depends on whether you prefer your asparagus to be tender and crisp, or completely tender. Tender and crisp, baked for only 3 to 5 minutes. For more tender asparagus, grill for 10 minutes. Thicker spears will take longer to cook, so adjust cooking time accordingly.

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus
  • 2 tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper

  • Preheat an outdoor grill to high, about 450°F.

  • Trim the ends of the asparagus by snapping off the ends or cutting with a knife.

  • Place the chopped asparagus in a large mixing bowl or a large gallon-sized resealable plastic bag. Add the olive oil, salt, and pepper and toss until the asparagus is lightly and evenly coated.

  • Place the asparagus directly on the grill, perpendicular to the grill grates, so they don’t fall over. Cover and grill on high heat for 10 minutes, turning halfway through.

  • Serve hot.
