Cuddle and warm up with a glass of spiced cider. This slow cooker cider is made from scratch and can be frozen and enjoyed all winter long!

Apple season has arrived. Do you believe? Fall and winter and apple season are upon us! When it comes to food and drink, fall and winter are some of our favorites. Apple sales are on, which means you can get great deals, so now’s the time to stock up on frozen servings of homemade cider. Throw it in the crock pot now and enjoy it all the way through Christmas.

It’s super easy to make a base cider, and we love how you can slightly vary it up for different occasions. Embrace your first fireplace boot of winter with a sprinkle of orange. Add some caramel and whipped cream for a dessert drink. No matter what you decide to do, you have to start with your base cider, this stuff is amazing. It’s super easy and so much better than that expensive bottle you buy at the store. Go get your apples while the season is in full swing!

Apple Choices:

We like a sweeter cider, so we used a mix of Gala and Red Delicious apples in this recipe. However, it all depends on your personal taste preference. If you prefer a more sour cider, Pink Lady or Braeburn would be great. You can also try a mix of several different varieties, such as:

pink lady
braeburn
Fuji
jona gold
golden crown
Jonathan
McIntosh
cortland

How should I strain the spices?

Once your cider is done, you can simply pour it through a fine mesh strainer or even cheesecloth. For an easier experience, we recommend putting the cloves and allspice in a small piece of cheesecloth, folded over and tied together with kitchen twine. When your cider is ready, simply spoon out the cinnamon stick and cheesecloth bag and it’s ready to drink!

Can I add alcohol to homemade cider?

Yes, you can add alcohol to cider to make a spiked adult drink. Popular choices for fortified cider are rum, bourbon, and whiskey. Feel free to add your favorite liquor. As always, drink responsibly.

Freezing Instructions:

We like to make a big batch and freeze the leftovers to drink all fall and winter. Simply allow your cider to cool completely, then pour into a freezer-safe gallon-sized ziplock bag. Stores flat in the freezer for easy storage and stacking. Be sure to use within 8-12 months.

Storage Instructions:

Store cider in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
