In this slow cooker short ribs recipe, the braising liquid is simple but delicious. The base is a combination of fried onions and garlic. Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. The real key in this recipe is a sprig of fresh rosemary. This may seem simple, but the long cooking time allows the flavor of the rosemary to permeate the liquid and meat. Be warned, the smells in your home will make you drool!

How to make drippings into a sauce:

Don’t waste those delicious juices! Remove the meat and pour the juices into the saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer until sauce has reduced (about 15 minutes). You get a delicious sauce. To get a smooth sauce, you need to strain it first.

How to turn drips into gravy:

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan. Add 2 tablespoons of flour and stir to form a paste. Pour in the strained juices and heat over medium-high heat until thickened. If your juice is straight out of the oven and still piping hot, this should only take a minute or two.

  • 4 pound Boneless or Bone-in Beef Short Ribs about 8 short ribs
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 3 cup beef soup
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 twig fresh rosemary

  • Season short ribs with salt and pepper. Heat a large skillet over high heat. Fry the short ribs for about 60 seconds on each of the 4 sides.

  • Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder to slow cooker and toss to combine. Add the ribs to the liquid in the slow cooker.

  • Arrange the rosemary sprigs over the meat and cover. Cook on low for 6-8 hours until the meat is tender.
