Slow Cooker Hawaiian BBQ Chicken is made with a homemade sauce and can be enjoyed whole or shredded for a delicious BBQ chicken sandwich. It pops in the slow cooker in less than 10 minutes so you can set it and forget it!

Can I use store bought BBQ sauce?

We prefer the taste of homemade BBQ sauce, but you can always use store-bought sauce in a pinch.

Worcestershire sauce substitute:

For all of you with seafood allergies, we know you’ve been looking for Worcestershire sauce alternatives. In this homemade BBQ sauce, you can simply substitute soy sauce.

butter:

Butter helps keep the meat a smooth, moist texture. Butter is optional but highly recommended. Chicken breast is a lean cut of meat, and adding butter will make the texture of the chicken more moist and smooth.

Pineapple:

Pineapple helps tenderize the chicken. Some people don’t like having them at the end, so remove the pineapple before shredding the chicken and adding the other half to the sauce.

Make Ahead and Freezing Instructions:

If you love frozen treats, you’re not alone. Prepare all ingredients, place them in a gallon-sized ziplock bag, and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then cook in the slow cooker the next day.

Storage and Reheating Instructions:

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in a skillet on the stovetop over medium heat or in the microwave in 30-second increments until heated through.

  • 4 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • 20 ounce canned pineapple Cans, blocks or rings, with juice
  • 4 tablespoon butter pickled, sliced
  • 6 sandwich bread Elective

Homemade BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

instruct

  • Place chicken breasts in a 4 to 6 quart slow cooker. Top with pineapple and butter slices,

  • In a small bowl, combine tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, salt, pepper, garlic, red pepper flakes, and mustard. Pour half of the sauce over the chicken.

  • Cover and cook on high for 4 to 5 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours.

  • When the chicken is cooked, remove about half of the juices and add the remaining BBQ sauce.

  • Lightly shred chicken.

  • Serve with toast!
