Who doesn’t love garlic bread? Really, we don’t think it’s possible. Baguette is already an amazing side, but when you add that amazing butter and garlic mixture and bake it, it makes this baguette another world. While eating about 2 slices of this food at a time may be an appropriate amount, this should never happen. We’re not proud to say that every time we do, we get more than our fair share. Once you try it, you’ll understand.

What’s the Best Bread for the Ultimate Garlic Bread Recipe?

Garlic bread can be made with any bread. We’ve found that we like to make ours on baguettes or other artisan style baguettes. We love the crispy crust and soft crumb. You can always make delicious garlic bread with rustic artisan bread, sourdough, or thick slices of bread. Avoid seasoned breads as they don’t mix well with garlic.

Can you use pre-chopped garlic?

Fresh garlic is always the most flavorful, but it’s increasingly common to find chopped or crushed garlic in grocery stores. Some grocery stores will chop the garlic for you in the store, and we’ve found that this pre-chopped garlic is just as good as chopping your own. Minced or crushed garlic sold in a jar does have less flavor, but it can still be used in any recipe that calls for minced garlic.

Salted Butter vs. Unsalted Butter:

You can use salted or unsalted butter in this recipe. If you’re using unsalted butter, just make sure to add the extra 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

Can I make this without broiler?

You absolutely can! Do not bake, but bake in an oven preheated to 450°F.

Storage and Reheating Instructions:

Does this really have any leftovers? Well, if you have any, you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in oven preheated to 350°F until heated through. Alternatively, you can reheat in the microwave in 30-second increments. However, it won’t stay crispy in the microwave.

  • 1 French bread
  • 1/2 cup salted butter soften
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 clove garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper


  • Cut the bread in half lengthwise and place each half on a baking sheet.

  • In a small bowl, combine butter, olive oil, basil, oregano, Parmesan, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir well.

  • Spread butter evenly over each half of baguette.

  • Place a roasting pan under the broiler in the oven. Bake until just starting to brown. Watch it carefully because how fast it cooks depends on how hot your broiler is and how close your rack is to the heating element. It should not exceed 5 minutes.
