Most of the year, we’re perfectly fine with just a little water. It’s moisturizing, fast, nothing fancy. Basically, water does the job. Once the warm weather hits, we all crave a super refreshing drink. Water just won’t work, it needs to be slightly sweet, very cool and very tasty. Can I add alcohol to watermelon puree?

Yes, you can definitely add alcohol to make it an adult drink. The traditional liquor added to watermelon puree is vodka, but feel free to experiment with your favorite liquor.

How to pick a good watermelon?

There are several ways to tell if a watermelon is ripe:

  • If you hold it against your stomach and tap it, you should feel a pop in your belly.
  • The webbing should be bigger. Smaller and tighter webbing means it is picked too early and not as sweet.
  • The underside of the watermelon sitting on the ground should be large, yellow or golden, not small or white.
  • It should smell slightly sweet.
  • It should feel heavy for its size.
  • Round is better than elongated.

If you don’t want to use granulated sugar, you can always use 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup.

How to Freeze Watermelon Chunks

Place the sliced ​​watermelon in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and place in the refrigerator. Once frozen, remove the diced watermelon and place in a ziplock bag before returning to the freezer. Cut watermelon will keep for up to 3 months in the refrigerator.

Can I use unfrozen fresh watermelon?

You absolutely can! You’ll want to add about 1 to 2 cups of ice cubes to the mixture, and double the sugar and lime juice to keep the flavor of the slush from being diluted.

Note in advance:

You want to make this right before serving so it’s still iced. You can always prepare the watermelon and limes 24 hours in advance and store in the refrigerator until ready to mix!

  • 8 cup watermelon chunks Frozen
  • 2 cup ginger ale
  • 2 all lime Juice, about 1/4 cup
  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • Add frozen watermelon cubes, lime juice, ginger ale, and sugar to a blender.

  • Blend on high speed until smooth

  • Pour into a glass and serve with a slice of lime!
